This book seems to do a great job of showcasing how traumatic events could disrupt a child's psyche if left unaddressed. I would like to know more about Pete and Jake's budding friendship. Thanks for the intriguing review.

From a sampling, this seems like an interesting novel following a family that is suffering from through some difficult times including Pete, a ten year old who runs away, and his mother that is having a hard time with her pregnancy. It might be worth a second look. Well done.

The story looks mysterious to me I am wondering what actually happened at Memphis to make Pete's and his family situation worst. The man jake, why did he take Pete in? No stranger would not want to take just anyone in because they are pitiful.

Thank you for your great review. I've just sampled the book, but with your review, I think I'll add it to my list of books to read. There are so many different ways that people can be affected by PTSD. I hope they each can get the help they need.

Based on the review, Pete's life was already in crisis from a young age. This however was exacerbated by what happened to his mother in Memphis. The book is definitely different to read. I like the fact that the reviewer highlighted MA with this work since parts of the book can be triggers for some readers.

I would not have picked this book for its cover or genre. However, the blurb is intriguing for me. I thought it would be such a sweet and powerful book.

Normally, psychological thrillers can be hit or miss for me. So far, I am really enjoying the interactions between Jake and Pete. I wonder what will become of Jake? Thanks for the review! :)

Pete has gone through a lot as a child. He ran away from home, as he was being neglected by his parents. This book touches on so many issues like child abuse and sexual harassment. I’m curious as to how things will turn out for Pete in the end.

Thanks for the review. I agree that the author has an uncanny ability to describe scenes which places the readers right at the center of events. I liked the storm scene which has Pete taking refuge in Jake's shed. I could immediately feel Pete's bone-chilling cold, the wetness of his clothes and the hunger he felt.
