Review of The Beginning of the End - It Starts
Have you ever thought of the world ending? What do you think you will do for your survival? Whom will you save first, yourself or your family? The Beginning of the End - It Starts is book one in a dystopian fantasy series by John K. Williamson that gives a glimpse of the monstrous world if it comes to an end.
The story begins with the sudden nuclear attack on the United States of America. The explosion has crumbled the entire country into piles of rubble. People, places, and lives burned and smoldered away. Those who survived have lost every ounce of humanity left in them. The only way left to survive is to kill. Out of the few survivors, John, Marvino, Janay, Henry, Ms. Morris, and Nancy are the only ones left alive. Now, with no one left to protect law and order and only the President, Jim Thomas, being alive, how will he stabilize the country. How will they fight to survive? If you are curious to know, prepare yourself! Because this book will make you shudder with fear.
The book contains many characters, but I must say that the author has brilliantly developed every character. They all are unique and realistic. The author has created a perfect chain of events happening one after another. Throughout this lengthy book of 328 pages, not even one moment bored me out. It was a fast-paced novel that kept me nervous and intimidated throughout the reading. The story was so full of twists and turns that I was biting my nails in the anxiety of the unknown. I also liked the author’s simple and articulate writing style.
The realism of events shown in the book hits hard on the face of the readers. People will fight until their last breath for their survival. This fact is palpable in the book at every point. Janay’s strength and ferociousness to survive for her kids is one remarkable evidence of it from the book.
There was nothing I disliked in the novel. However, some scenes disgusted me. For instance, Spyder mistreating women because of his insecurities and scenes of Jimmy torturing and slowly killing the people.
I want to warn the readers that the book contains frequent non-borderline profanities. There were many graphic scenes of violence and explicit depictions of gruesome rape and murder. Therefore, I recommend this book to a mature audience who likes dystopian science fiction and adventures. This novel is certainly not for teenagers. Also, readers sensitive to graphic violence might not like this book.
Finally, the book seems to be professionally edited, as I found some errors. It would be perfect after one more round of editing. The errors I found are not enough of a reason for me to take away any star. Hence, I happily rate this book four out of four stars.
