Chasing The Red Queen by Karen Glista is a romantic novel based at Sault Ste. Marie. The main theme is love with some other themes like loss, grief, and violence. A paranormal romantic read to sum it all.

Chasing The Red Queen revolves around Donja Bellanger, a teen with a history she does not know about. It all begins when her father passes on. Donja alongside her brother, Frankie, is left under the care of their mother, Lisa. After a while, Lisa falls in love with someone else and ends up tying the knot. Immediately after the wedding, comes a big move, which Donja is against, to Ontario. Donja’s grandmother is also against it but Lisa insists. Lisa’s new husband has a daughter, Makayla, who is as old as Donja. The two dislike each other at first because of negative stereotyping. They become good friends after interacting and Makayla becomes Donja’s tour guide and best friend. It is through Makayla that Donja meets her lover, Torin, and then all hell breaks loose.

Love, hate, anger, and fear are the four most powerful drivers of human beings. One will do almost anything: for the people loved, to people or things hated, to express or deal with anger and because of what is feared. Violence is the most turned to resort in times of hatred and anger. However, what if it is not the only way to solve the problem? How possible is it for a mortal to fight a battle that involves an immortal? What is the outcome of such a fight? The answers are found in this splendid read.

I admired how Karen Glista explores the world of love in a different way than usual. Merging mortal and immortal characters is way beyond every day servings. How each aspect of the two is explored and makes it surreal. I loved every bit of the read. Another factor that got me hooked is how the characters develop. At each stage of development, the author made sure to engage the reader. At first, it appeared slow but once it started picking up the pace, it was hard to put it down. There is not a single thing that I disliked in and about this book.

I rate the read 4 out of 4 stars as I enjoyed it throughout the first to the last page. It explores out-of-earth imagination and aspects. It opens a reader’s mind by giving love a different face. I expected the read to be sappy but I got much more than expected.

The recommendation of this read is to young adults and romance lovers. In addition, it is best advisable for readers who detest stories on immortal beings to sit out on this one.
