Review of Who Told You That You Were Naked?
Biblical accounts can be difficult to understand if one has not taken a keen look into the scriptures. The author takes a reenactment of the genesis biblical account of the way sin entered the world and the remedy. He sets out a refreshing reexamination of the book of Genesis. He makes a heartwarming dramatization of the biblical texts. Adam and Eve experienced relational and spiritual death that affected their progeny. Did they hear a voice telling them they were naked? William Combs looks into details of what sin is and the righteousness that comes through faith. With personal testimony, he points out the narcissistic view where many see themselves as “good people” and by so doing they deny the ramification of sin.
Who Told You That You Were Naked? seeks to answer and correct the question that many ask in their hearts. How can the death of God-man be a cure for sinners? What is God’s expectation for one who has believed? The author lays out a clear biblical foundation for a believer’s life. This can be a great bible study tool for small group discussions.
I liked everything about this book. The author uses dramatization of the biblical accounts to build up his dissertation. His imagination of the stories which the bible does not give much detail makes it captivating. He uses this style to form a concrete impression on the mind of the reader about the subject at hand. I loved his alternating style of writing. After or before the dramatization is a short-detailed commentary with scriptural citations. He doesn’t lose the context and key principles seeking to pass on.
Personal testimony from the author, his wife Miriam, and elder Ralph gives a practical experience of faith in human life. I identify with what he writes and strongly found impressions of encouragement in my heart. His honesty in the testimony can be a reflection in the heart of the readers.
I loved the study question after each chapter. The basic summary and personal understanding can fully be found from such. The questions are thought-provoking and engage the mind to reason out with scriptures. This makes the book a perfect study for small groups.
I enjoyed my read of the book. I could personally agree with the author's perspective. The book is exceptionally edited. With all considerations, I rate the book 4 out of 4 stars. I recommend this book to all young and old Christians who are seeking biblical truth. However, anyone who is seeking to understand the Christian view of sin and death can greatly satisfy their quest in this book.
