Review of Selling with Presence
Selling with Presence by Reggie Pearse is a book about being an effective professional salesperson. Pearse states that the standard processes of finding new customers and keeping them are now obsolete. He opined that customers are now well-informed since all the information about a product is readily available on the internet. The book outlines a relevant customer-service that resonates with the times. The author points out that a salesperson must work hard to make a lasting impression on the customer. He tells us that potential customers are more likely to agree to a deal if they relate to the salesperson. The author also points out that a seller has to be presentable and interesting enough to the buyer. He suggests skills that salespeople can employ in order to communicate effectively. The author also writes about meeting management and the process involved in closing deals. He then shares ways of utilizing social media to reach a wide customer base and close more deals.
The positive thing about this book is that it has links to free online lessons for further reading. I feel that being a salesperson in the internet age is a complex occupation which requires continuous education and knowledge of the latest trends in the industry. Another good thing about the book is that some information is tabulated which makes it easier to understand. The part where the writer is comparing a salesperson and an actor is particularly easier to grasp since it’s tabulated. The stories incorporated in the book makes it more interesting and understandable. Without the stories the book would be rather a dull text-book. The author tells us that he was a terrible salesperson himself but the death of his father made him to up his game.
Another plus is that the book embraces a practical approach which makes it more effective. The reader has to take part in plays designed to reveal their personality. It also has a worksheet for jotting down important points.
I didn’t find anything negative about the book. I think it is a marketing gem. The book is short and spot-on.
The book is exceptionally edited with no errors; I find no reason not to give it 4 out of 4 stars. It is the full package. It is well articulated, practical and has links for further reading. It even has some tips on health.
I recommend this book to business people, negotiators and students in the field of marketing. Health fanatics can also benefit from the breathing exercise included in the book.
