Who is a friend? Is friendship relation important in people’s lives? The Reel Sisters by Michelle Cummings is a beautifully woven and interesting historical fiction novel about five women: Sophie, Veronica, Rose, Amanda, and Melody. Their friendship is created out of their passion towards fly-fishing.

Sophie, a farm girl from the great state of Kansas, is the protagonist of the story—this is because through her, we are introduced to the rest of the women. She is moving out to Colorado to start a greenhouse and a nursery business. While in Colorado, she meets Rose at the fly shop, and they dramatically became great friends. After a conversation of about ten minutes, Rose invites Sophie to go fishing on the Arkansas River, where she owns a cabin. Moreover, she taught her more about fishing and life in general. Veronica is the CEO of her company. She was introduced to the fly-fishing sport while heading to a conference by Sophie. Amanda works as an elementary teacher. Melody is a freelancer and a photographer. She becomes one of them after being saved from drowning.

This book is enjoyable and engaging, hence, I read it all in one sitting. It is divided into ten sections (Gearing Up, Fly-Fishing in a River, Little Rivers, Sharing, Practice, A Perfect Cast, The Joy of Going Solo, Striking, Playing, and Landing, Catch and Release, and The Present and Years Ahead—Ethics and Manners). Moreover, educative quotes about fly-fishing have been included at the start of each section. Indeed, Michelle Cummings is a talented author: she uses dialogues to enhance the flow of the story from the start to the end of the story.

Genuinely, there is nothing I disliked about this heartwarming book. The characters were well-developed. The language used is simple and easy, hence, it is easy to comprehend the whole story. My most-liked character in the book is Rose. She is motherly and caring. Topics of family, love, education, work, leisure, betrayal, friendship, and death have been portrayed in the book.

I wholeheartedly rate The Reel Sisters 4 out of 4 stars. It was exceptionally well edited, as I could not find any grammatical errors in it. The book’s cover and its title could easily catch my attention. I recommend this intriguing book to all adult readers who enjoy reading adventurous stories. Also, to those who would like to venture into fly-fishing sport: it contains a lot information about fly-fishing.
