Randy the Irresistible, by S M Goodier, is about Randy Love (really), who is somehow irresistible to young ladies and recently, older divorcees. The young English man who lives up to his name, has just returned from his gap year in the U.S. He has decided to not return to University to redo his exams and finish his degree, but to strike it rich in the banking world with as little work as possible. With his good looks and good nature, he is able to get what he wants, but not without a few mistakes along the way. Throughout his fumbles with living situations, jobs and women, Randy always manages to come out on top. Because of this, he continues to only look out for himself and disregards others and his responsibilities and continues to make the same mistakes.

The book has some humorous snippets, particularly with Randy attracting divorcees and outsmarting controlling roommates and landlords. Admittedly, Randy is very clever in saving a buck and avoiding responsibility. The reader will definitely laugh out loud as Randy fumbles through life.

The reason I give Randy the Irresistible a 2 out of 4 is because Randy is hard to like. He never really learns his lesson. Besides having to live with a girl he is dating for a few weeks or be homeless, he never really has to suffer for making his quick, ego-centric choices. It can be refreshing and realistic for a book to not be a happily ever after, but I would have liked to see Randy learn a lesson or figure out what will make him happy. The ending wraps up with Randy seemingly content, but I suspect he would be back to his old, selfish ways in the future. There are also a few point of view jumps and plot fast-forwards that can be confusing. Also, where the author's English slang dictionary in the back seems helpful, many phrases are left out (including an explanation to the joke of the main character's name-"Horny" Love) and most are already common knowledge.

If someone is looking for a light, humorous read, Randy the Irresistible is an enjoyable book. There is some raunchy humor and unethical choices. College-aged readers would probably relate to Randy's struggles trying to find a place in the adult world, but hopefully learn from Randy's mistakes. Older readers will get a chuckle and shake their heads on what Randy got himself into next throughout the book.
