Review of The Easter Make Believers
The Easter Make Believers by Finn Bell is a crime thriller. Nick and Tobe are GIC detectives. They are called at 3.30 am to a silenced suburb. Later, they acknowledged the fact that an innocent family was taken hostage. The proper hostage protocol was followed and everything seemed to be under control. The next moment, there are gunshots and two consecutive explosions that leave everyone stunned. When things calm down, they enter the house to find all the bad guys dead.
Realisation falls on them that the father and one of the bad guys are missing. The storm is raging in the suburb and time is running out. Tobe and Nick set out to rescue the good guy and arrest the bad one. Everyone is puzzled on the fact that worst things were befalling on a good family. The hostage family had no history of crimes but rather of tragedies. The next question arises that why did the gang members choose this innocent family. It is suspicious that all the top gang members were dead while the family remained unhurt. As Nick and Tob keep searching, the storm is worsening and time is turning against their luck. It is upto them to solve this haphazard.
The thriller is very descriptive. The writing style is easy and crisp. This crime thriller is narrated with a modern touch. There are two parallel storylines that run throughout the book. One is narrated from the point of the kidnapped person. While the other is narrated from Nick's view.
The ending is completely unpredictable which makes the book more intricate. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I appreciate the detailed knowledge of the author regarding the said area. The author has described all the characters profoundly.
The book kept me hooked up to it until the end. It was a professionally edited book. Supporting characters were described with immense clarity. Hence, I wanted more from them in the upcoming parts which ended in disappointment.
I would like to rate the book with 4 out of 4 stars. The wordplay and description were amazing. It is a page-turner. I loved the use of modern technology which was well portrayed. The occurrence of twists were truly mind-boggling.
Highly recommended to mature young readers who are a fan of crime-thrillers. There are also some trigger warnings that one needs to be aware of before picking it up.
