The Journey Home: Portraits of Healing was written by Gabriel Bron. This is a heartwarming journey of the author with his parents. Gabriel’s mother was such an enthusiastic, detailed, and articulate woman. However, life seemed to take a toll on her after she was diagnosed with dementia. Their family began to experience seasons of difficulty and challenging times in order to meet the health demands of Gabriel’s mother. Gabriel and his sister, Kate, would do their best to save their hurting parents and to save the situation. I hope their efforts will be fruitful.

This is an emotional story about Gabriel’s parents and the family issues that came along with it. He tells this story in a very captivating manner, which seems to include the reader in the process. I particularly liked how the author tried to share his parent’s childhood and adulthood memories and events in their lifetime. I was informed about “Alzheimer's disease” and the stages of the symptoms of this illness. I suggest that readers of this book can trust it as a guide for their beloved ones who are going through dementia.

Also, I enjoyed how the author introduced science and medicine in this book. This was exemplified when he talked about different versions of the “GABA Gene.” Readers were informed about the causes of alcoholism in most individuals. With this book, Gabriel offered indirect help to those who have sick or aging parents. Sometimes in life, one needs to accept the inevitable outcome of these health challenges, even when it has to do with our loved ones. Emotional stability is very crucial during such seasons of one’s life. I feel this book is quite relatable to most readers, and it will be well appreciated.

I have nothing against this book. There was nothing I considered negative about the whole book. I enjoyed this creative piece. Consequently, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. Also, I did find only a few errors in the book. Hence, I considered it professionally edited.

I recommend this book to those who have loved ones who are going through all kinds of diseases, and it seems the battle is lost. This book gives readers first-hand experience in this category, as it showed how to handle such a situation. If you are taking care of older individuals around you who have health issues, then pick up this book.
