I have read the reviewed this book before. This book aims to help parents handle stubborn children. The author introduces the concept of “relaxed pleasure”, which is also a technique to make a stubborn child more flexible and sociable. Congrats on botd!

This association of flexible pleasure with autism suggests that stubbornness is an illness in children. I contend that if something can be socialised out of you, then it is not an illness. Then again, I see that it can impede learning, so maybe I’m wrong. At any rate, I like that the mitigatingmethods discussed by this author are not likely to stigmatise children.

Hi!

Congratulations on winning BOTD reviewer!

I have never heard of the term "relaxed pleasure" prior to this review. I wonder if this is a term the author created or an obscure psychological term that is not discussed often enough? That leads into how did he develop the methods or revive and simply something that existed prior to this book? What studies (even if they are not relaxed pleasure) did he use to create the content of the book? Where/what inspires an author often is reflected in their writing which is why I believe learning that about any author is interesting.

I would be interested in learning whether elementary school students could be taught using these methods in the classroom or does it involve touching a child (therefore only parents/relatives should work with that child). Relaxed pleasure and including diagrams made that cross my mind. I do not meet the implied demographic because I do not have children but I appreciate the details of your review.

Thank you for this review.

I wish I could have read this book when my children were young. My one daughter was very stubborn and tough to get her to change her mind. This book is written in very easy to follow language and is a wonderful guide for parents with young children. Couples that are planning on having children should read this book before they have children so that they know what to expect. Very good review.
