I was overwhelmed as I went through the book Duplicity by Fin C Gray. It was one of the unique books that I had felt to read completely in just one sitting. Although it took me a bit more time than that. The plot is wonderful along with the characters and scenarios that led to the thrilling climax of the novel.

The story follows the life of Tom McIntyre and his family. The chapters flow through past and present lives of Tom and his son Daniel. Daniel has been through a traumatic experience which changes his behaviour to the point that he gets lost in his own world, and he starts blaming everyone around him for the misdoings happening with him. On the other hand, Tom has eveything a man desires, but he wants more than he has, and this thinking leads him away from his family and the dream life he is living surrounded by his family. Tom doesn't value the simple fulfilling life he has while Daniel is unable to comprehend happiness from made up sorrow in his head.

The way Tom and Daniel cope up with their problems made me hate them and pity them at different points in the story. Their nature and how they grew up reflected in their ways of handling situations in their life which I was able to connect with. The different essence of human nature have been precisely explained by the author through the characters of Tom, Daniel, Jenny, Alison and even Waqar.

What I took as a lesson from this novel was that one should always be happy with what they have rather than wasting time in planning to have more. To be in the moment and respect what we have is the life one should live. It doesn't mean that we shouldn't plan for more, but neglecting the happiness of the present and not giving time to important people in our life can lead to our downfall. This novel also portrays the effects of communication gap among family members and the results of bad decisions.

The story was beyond what I had expected a thriller to be. I had chosen this book thinking that it would be entertaining and different from the stories that I read, but it left me breathless and flabbergasted with the turn of every page, and I was so ecstatic when I finished it. It felt really nice to see that the author had chosen a subject that one might think twice due to the judgement it might suffer.

I appreciate the author for bringing a creative plot and story for the readers. It deals with sexual abuse, mind washing by faith, alcoholism, and sexual orientations. So it's not for readers below the age of 18. It also has gory scenes and animal abuse that some readers wouldn't like to read. But if you're someone who can handle all above mentioned themes then it's better to choose this thriller because it can be an amazing read.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The story looks like it's professionally edited, and it has less than ten errors and grammatical mistakes. I liked the story and would like to read more books from Fin C Gray.
