Review of The Stolen Heir
The Stolen Heir: Survival by Tayma Tameem is the third part of the fantasy series with the same name, The Stolen Heir. You may need the first two volumes to fully follow the flow. Still, this well-written story is consistent enough so that you can read it independently.
Just like the name suggests, the novel focuses on the clash between Caligon's dark elves and the united armies of Krasoria's four empires. Led by Dracan, his parents, and his best friend, the Thumerians, Palerians, Bellatarians, and Vetirians risk their lives to defend their beloved ones. While it starts off with some significant damages to the opponents, the allied forces gradually realize their fate. Despite being stabbed and hit, the dark elves are surprisingly hard to kill, and they don't feel pain. Even worse, they have the dark mages with them.
Meanwhile, the humans are dying one after another. The light mages and the users of light magic exhaust themselves mentally and physically. Not to mention, Caligon's master, Moros, is coming with more monsters. Can the mortals survive this war? Is there no hope for Krasoria? What can Dracan and his allies do to defeat their enemy? Should they just surrender to stop this unbearable agony?
One of the book's most brilliant points is that both the main cast and the supporting characters are given voices to express their thoughts. Dracan, the heir to the thrones of Thumeria and Paleria, always worries about his family and his friends. He keeps trying to come back to them and protect them. Despite that, there are times when he wants to run and hide. Myre, the young king of Vetiria, fights with an army consisting of mere farmers and servants. He sees their bravery, but he also sees their mangled remains. His kindness forces him to choose between his friends and his people. In the end, he makes a respectful decision. Jeofrn, the mage who kidnapped Dracan, torments himself over the years. He can never tell if stealing the heir was the right choice, but he knows countless lives have been lost because of him. Thus, he is trying to atone for what he did. Even the antagonist, Caligon, is shown with frustration, insecurity, dismay, and loneliness when things won't go as his wishes.
The only shortcoming of this tale is the predictable plot, since there are not many twists. However, the fierce and constant battles would make up for that, so the entire book has no dull moments.
Since the negative point is minor, I will rate this copy 4 out of 4 stars. The editing can be considered professional, as I only found a few errors. Those who want a fast-paced novel filled with duels and magic performances will find this one fascinating. It hardly has any profanities or erotic details, so it's suitable for both adults and teenagers.

The only drawback to this story is that it is pretty predictable, has no sensual scenes, and is suitable for adults.
I'll give this copy four stars out of four...

Me too, fantasy books are my number one favorite especially if there's an evil villain. I'm so attracted to evil villains. They spice the story up. Anyways, nice review!Rachael S 1 wrote: ↑28 Oct 2021, 16:30 I am a big fan of sci/fi fantasies with mages and sword-fighting. But I prefer to have my stories include twists and turns to keep my attention. Too bad.
