Should John have been honest about his amnesia?

Well, of course he should have been honest. It would have saved him from lots of trouble. But then, on the other hand, as it is a very important element in this whole story, this book would look a whole lot different if he had been honest. In that sense, I am happy that he was not honest! Because this is an exciting, enjoyable read!

Yeah, I was a bit hesitant to post this topic because I know that John's decision to hide his amnesia is essentially the foundation of the novel. But I also think how interesting would it be if John is more honest and how the author will proceed from this point were he to write another version of the story.

If he were honest the plot would have been different, and he would have avoided a lot of trouble. So I am okay that he kept it to himself. The book is better this way.

I think that usually in real life, people tend to hide illnesses, especially mental illnesses or disorders such as amnesia. So in that sense, I do believe it was realistic for him to hide his condition. However, I think that probably he would have had fewer troubles along the way if he had admitted it and sought help.

He should have definitely told somehow. Things would have turned out differently and better. Hiding it and bearing the pain alone even affected his mental and psychological health more.

Lying does not pay, rather it causes more harm. He would have been open about his amnesia so he will know where help will come from. Though on a second thought he would want to maintain his position in his work place and the trust they once had on him.

I can understand why John refused to tell anyone about his amnesia because he didn’t want to appear weak. However, had he been honest and told his doctor, he might have had some help and wouldn’t ended up in the situation he was in with Zenith and Pete. If he had told someone then the book would have been different.

I think that had he revealed his amnesia, it would definitely have helped him avoid some of the difficulties he faced. That said, the decision of whether or not to share mental issues with others is an intensely personal decision. He decided against it. If not for the fact that the book's actual plot would not have been possible if he had revealed his amnesia, I would fully support that decision. As is, I can't help but be glad he didn't!

I think he should have been honest. Most times, people suffering from amnesia are not aware of it and may not be able to hide it as they would keep asking questions. I wish the author made John ask more questions rather than hiding the fact. That would have added more spice to the story.

Under normal circumstances of course John should have been honest. But because of what he was facing, I don't think him telling anybody would have been the best idea. There would have been no story if John had openly announced his amnesia. So him keeping it a secret was absolutely necessary.

I agree that he should have told someone, but then again, how does a person with amnesia know they're suffering from amnesia? How do they identify that they're suffering from it and how do they diagnose themselves with it? That confuses me still because a normal person suffering from amnesia would ask questions and therefore doctors would be able to help them. That's my takeaway.

It's possible! A person can know if they're suffering from amnesia. But I do agree with you. John should have said something about his condition. Those around him would have helped him to recover.

In every moral, there's always an exception in rare cases. The fastest thing is to say he should have opened up to someone, but then bearing in mind that the truth always comes with consequences. Whatever that consequence would have been who knows if he could handle it. So I think keeping to himself was best.

John definitely should have been honest regarding his medical ailment as it could have saved him from various struggles as mentioned in the novel.

Ordinarily, he should have. But that, obviously, would change the course of the story. Either way, him not mentioning his memory loss is questionable.
