I like how you brought positive thinking into play. I believe John's act of going to Blanworth despite being drunk clearly shows how he really wants to manifest him being the architect to design the next building.Kibabcock wrote: ↑04 Nov 2021, 20:18 It could be said that if you want something to happen bad enough, think positive and it will happen. John wanted to take on the development of the new building so he dreamed it happening. He went to the site to take the measurements so he could prepare for his dreams to come true. He was desperate for this dream to come true so he was willing to do whatever it took.
What do you think caused John to believe that he will be the architect of the next building?

Yes, John is so desperate to prove to himself and others that he is not a failure. That is why he still drove to Blanworth despite being inebriated. A project so big would definitely look good on the protagonist's CV.Purplesturv wrote: ↑05 Nov 2021, 03:29 Going to measure the site might have been a means of self-validation for John. He had failed so much in the past, designing the new Zenith building would have been an avenue to redeem himself

So I don't think John "believed" he would be the architect of the new building; he only wished and dreamed.

It is a good, bold, and uncertain step to go take measurements of the land, as he does.
I'm sure he has inner conviction in himself and that is what is driving him.
Whether his mental state has anything to do with it, is debatable but it shows nothing should stand in your path to greatness, not even your ego.
