IF HE WAS HONEST HE WOULD HAVE NOT SUFFERED THE WAY HE DID.
BUT if we see, had john told everyone about it ,it would have made the story quite plain, because this decision of hiding about his amnesia lit a fire of curiosity in the readers, people were compelled to imagine about the upcoming situation and as we know, curiosity is one of the factors which make a novel interesting.
