Jazz Poems, reflections on a broken heart is a collection of poetry written by Aurora M. Lewis. The book contains 50 poems on a variety of topics. The author writes of love, losses, joy, and pain. Anyone who enjoys jazz and blues, or those who have suffered through a broken heart, will completely be able to relate to the poems in this book.

In Jazz Poems, reflections of a broken heart, the author uses raw emotions to express the ups and downs of her life. She chooses to write the poems to the musicality of the jazz and blues she remembers from her youth. Through her words, the reader can actually feel what the author is expressing in her poetry. She tells her story in a musical way that will appeal to many readers. It shows the influence music has had on her life.

While this book would be enjoyed by any poetry lover, the author specifies the intended audience to be adult women. I feel it could also be enjoyable for adult men. I do believe due to the content of some of the poems, it wouldn't be suitable for youth. Those who don't enjoy poetry would want to pass on this one as well.

I found Aurora Lewis's collection of poetry to be intriguing. She has a different style of writing. I liked that I could feel the emotion in her words. I could tell she is very passionate about what she writes about. I also enjoyed how she used jazz and blues to add a musical touch to her poems. I feel many would understand the emotions in her poem called, "Will It Ever End." She writes about a loss from forty years ago and she is wondering if the pain of him walking away will ever end. I think a lot of people know that exact pain. I also felt "The Breakup" was a well-written poem that really grasps what a breakup feels like for the one who has been cheated on. I really didn't find anything to dislike about this book.

I rated this book 4 out of 4 stars. It appears to be professionally edited for the most part and only contains one error. The error is a page number listed in the table of contents so I didn't remove a star for this since it was very minor. All of the poems are enjoyable and keep the reader's attention. I found the book to be well-written. I feel the author's poems are highly relatable and it made me like the book all that much more. Overall, it was well worth reading. I would like to read other books by this author in the future.
