Hattie Vavaseur is a mystery written by M. Rebecca Wildsmith. It tells the story of Ms Hattie Vavaseur, a prim and proper old lady, as she tries to navigate her life whilst suffering from memory loss. Hattie ends up in a strange house owned by a very gruff old man who appears to detest her very appearance. Gradually, as they learn more about each other and the people around them, they find that they are all connected in a way they never thought possible; but is it too late to turn back the tides of time?

This tale has kept me glued to the book until the very last page. The way it is written keeps the reader guessing and eager to get to the bottom of things. I found myself highlighting multiple parts of the book for their imagery and the heartfelt emotions the words brought up. The story is quite fast-paced without feeling rushed. There are a few twists I did not expect but I cannot simply give them away without taking away from the whole story! The story is well thought-out and it is easy to empathize with and visualise the characters. Each character feels real and distinct. Some chapters also contain hidden messages. Best keep your eyes peeled!

There was nothing in particular that I disliked about this book. I have not noticed any plot holes or any mistakes in spelling or with editing. The story is written in third person point of view and as I was reading I felt that I was a fly on the wall, experiencing the same things that the characters were experiencing at that moment.

Due to the reasons outlined above, I feel that this book deserves a rating of 4 out of 4.

This book is recommended for people who enjoy mystery stories similar to Agatha Christie's Miss Marple and Poirot. It does not, however, follow a strictly a whodunnit plot. There is an added sense of mysticism incorporated into the story which adds substance to the whole reading experience.
