Review of Bedu: Bedouin Boy, Poet King
Bedu: The Bedouin Boy, Poet King by David W. Sutherland and Paul McKellips is a Historical Fiction tale about an ordinary Shepherd boy called Bedu who transitioned from being a simple Shepherd boy to become a business man and a Poet king. The story is set around 30 A.D. in Damascus and it tells of Bedu who thought who he was and all that his life was about is being a shepherd boy until his family had an unexpected visit from king Melchoir an old friend of Abbas Bedu’s father and His grand Daughter Yasmin and One hundred and thirty two soldiers who followed King Melchoir wherever he went, they visited Bedu’s father (Abbas) on their way to Bsharri for Yasmin and finally Aabdeh for king Melchoir for whom Bedu’s father slaughtered seven sheep and four goats, all his livestock, and this angered Bedu who felt resentment towards King Melchoir who came to his home and finished all they had. When King Melchoir was about to leave he gave Bedu 5 Pieces of gold to restore what his father had spent in entertaining him and his men. So Bedu embarked on a journey of self-discovery that is full of adventure, friendship, sacrifice, and love.
The book is a book that teaches the values of selfless sacrifice, helping others in time of need and the effect of one’s character, it tells the reader that we are more than what we do for a living, who we are is more than the job we do, how we relate with others is very important, meeting the needs of others is far more rewarding than caring for only ones self and the good you do today, will return to you in some other way tomorrow.
I like the way the writer properly arranged the book with each chapter being adventurous and how from start to finish it tells of how an ordinary shepherd boy became a great man. I really enjoyed Bedu: The Bedouin Boy, Poet King because every chapter has a moral lesson to teach and one doesn’t have to over think to understand the book.
What I don’t like about the book is the fact that there are too many repetition of the same story in almost all the chapter, although the repetitions did not in any way affect the quality and essence of the book but I feel there could have been less of it.
I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. This book is a wonderful book, I would have loved to rate it a 4 out of 4 but because of the repetition in the book, that is why I am giving it a 3 out of 4 rating.
This book is a book suitable for anyone who enjoys a good adventure story; it’s also suitable for all ages both the young and the old would enjoy this book.

Thanks for this comment, it means a lot to meCleverSpider001 wrote: ↑13 Jan 2022, 06:19 I like the time frame this book is set in, 30AD Damascus. I am curious about how the author would depict how life during that era was. I like the fact that King Melchoir paid the family back for their kindness. Thanks for the lovely review.
