Review of Rise of the Savior
[Following is a volunteer review of "Rise of the Savior" by Antoine Bonner.]
Amanda- daughter of Jean and Logan, is a high school graduate, facing the dilemma of making a decision on what to do with her life. Her sister Saira, exhibits strange behavioral patterns which leaves Amanda puzzled. Jamie, a medical doctor in town, has a terminally-ill son who is at the brink of death, and would do anything to save him. After being put in life-threatening situations, both Jamie and Amanda will experience profound changes and life-altering events that will leave their fates intertwined.
Rise of the Savior: Acolyte of Truth by Antoine Bonner is a thrilling, action packed, sci-fi fantasy novel with a modern setting, centered on the world of the supernatural. The twenty-three chapter novel is a bizarre collection of characters, and tells the classic tale of good versus evil. It is a story that enlightens the reader on the inner conflicts a person tries to overcome, with regard to light and darkness, morals and responsibility.
A lot can be said about the magnificent world-building by Antoine Bonner. As a lover of anime, I could relate to the combination of different worlds and the fast-paced nature of the plot, along with the intense scenes of action. The characters in this book, as well as the relationships between them was well portrayed. There was also some comic relief which was great. I loved Amanda's transformation from a regular teenager to a badass superhero, particularly how this transformation led to the self discovery of what she needed to protect. I was especially fond of the sisterly bond between Amanda and Saira which Antoine depicted really well. Their combined efforts to protect the humans from evil was truly remarkable. I also found Jamie's strong desire (in spite of his villainy) to save his son even at the cost of his humanity, really endearing. Rise of the Savior: Acolyte of Truth is a great novel to read and it even comes with moral lessons to learn.
There were a few things I did not like about the book. I found that I was lost in some of the dialogue because certain characters had multiple definitions while some were not introduced properly. For example, the deities and kundalinis which I perceived as one and the same were given distinct personalities. This was something I found very confusing and I found myself having to go back and reread some chapters again for a better understanding.
Aside from a few negligible typographical errors and a little confusion in some of the dialogue and the story plot, Rise of the Savior: Acolyte of Truth was an exciting read. I would like to rate this book 3 out of 4 stars.
I recommend this book to young adult and mature readers as it contains some profanity, extreme violence and gory detail which I feel would be too sensitive for much younger readers.
