Mixed Blessings, a book about the fight against racism and the continuous struggle to gain political power by any means.

This intriguing story revolves around the life of Kublai Khan, a minister and pastor, who seeks to stop racism against the blacks, and using his fight for justice to gain political power. He is someone who won't back down from his fight against racism. The story also revolves around Kimberly Solberg, a biracial girl whose father is Mexican and mother,Jew, who tries to find her roots in order to discover who she really is, and faces different challenges cause she's mixed, and Star Matthews, a multiracial girl too, who was being denied of what rightfully belongs to her all because she came from a black father.

J.M. Muse writes in a unique way. I like the roles the characters played and how their flaws were shown as humans. The main character, Kublai Khan, was the protagonist but a different one because he was not shown as being righteous as expected of heros but in his fight for what is good engaged in some immoral acts showing he's not actually an hero. The antagonist in the story, a pastor as well, Tucker Dalton was well developed and portrayed. He played the role of an actual villain. If I were to choose the hero in the story I would choose the interesting character, Ahmed who had a family with Kimberly.

Mixed Blessings exposes readers to the knowledge of what an inordinate thirst for power even among so called men of God can cause in the lives of people. The book is also filled with unexpected turn of events that would surprise readers. While reading I got curious and asked myself questions like these, Would the mass wedding hold without any disruptions or complications? Would Khan's plan come true? Would Star overcome her challenges? Would Kimberly find true love? All these questions made me eager to read the next chapters.

What I dislike about this book is that there was no Table of Contents for easy navigation of the chapters for readers while reading, as well as, the book having few terms or sentences in languages like Spanish, Japenese and even Arabic without translation or glossary and this may seem a bit off to people who don't have a fundamental knowledge of those languages.

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. I deducted a star because of the above reasons and it having a few errors in it as the book is well edited.

This book is suitable for an mature audience due to its explicit sex scenes, the use of swear words and drugs in it. If you don't mind religious content like the acknowledgment of God and Jesus, in addition to the worship of God in Christianity and the presence of other religions in the book, then this book is for you. Also, if you are not too religious, then this book is good for you as you may find some acts in the book disturbing. If you are looking for a terrific or horrifying story, then this book is your perfect choice.
