Navajo's experimental fiction, Ironing, written about the general population, is a novel in which you get a glimpse into the lives of different people as they go about their daily lives, such as shopping or working. It doesn't have a plot that binds everything together; instead, it's a collection of stories about people going about their daily routines. It all starts with these three females taking a bus to a dog show. These three young ladies are Emma, Ginie, and Royanda, and they are the main protagonists of the book. As the novel progresses, more perspectives and people are presented. The plot of the story consists primarily of following these characters as they go about their daily lives and observing their connections with other characters.

Switching views without any previous knowledge of some of the individuals was perplexing at times. Characters arise out of nowhere and have so little to do with the overall story. You will only read a few hundred words about them before never seeing them again. The punctuation was off on occasion, and you frequently read a single large block of text. Only when the point of view is swapped would the paragraph structure change. It is for this reason that I found it so difficult to read. It was difficult to determine who said what. I had to re-read portions of the story to figure out who was talking or who the subject was.

I will say, I enjoyed the novella staying true to reality and everyday people. The character’s speech stayed true to the daily interactions between people. Most novels are elaborately structured and have a specific goal, but this novel is different. It gives a much more accurate and refreshing portrayal of regular lives and ordinary people. It does not follow your typical writing and plot. Despite the characters' coming and going, the author does a perfect job of capturing their personalities through their speech and mannerisms. It gives the reader a chance to be imaginative and fill in the blanks. The story did not get boring at any point; once you picked it up, you could not put it down.

I would have to give this novel a three out of four only because of the confusion I faced at times. Although I found the story to be confusing on occasion, it does not take away from the fact that it is a good read. The story is a refreshing take on reality, and the dialogue between the characters is both true and relatable.

This book is definitely good for those who like to read realistic works of fiction. This is not a book made for people who like the conventional style of novels. You will not find a plot here in the story or anything tied together. If you are the type of person who wants a story with a beginning, middle, and end, this is not for you.
