Review of Mixed Blessings
Mixed Blessings was written by J. M. Muse. Kublai Khan is an African-American pastor who owns a church that has many African-American people. He wanted to realize a plan that could solve the racial problems in America. Kimberly Solberg is a biracial American who is facing a lot of problems in her everyday life, such as being bullied by her classmate and having an identity crisis just because her mother was Jewish and her father was Mexican. Furthermore, everyone was fighting to get recognition for themselves. Also, Dalton is a pastor who thinks in contrast to Kublai Khan's dream. Both Kublai and Dalton had a strong mind about what they saw as discrimination and racial problems.
I liked the author's writing style. The storyline was really good and the characters were well-developed. For instance, there was a TV show where there was a debate between American white people and African-American people. Furthermore, they were defending their race with all they had, which made me feel the emotion of these characters. This book was easy to read and understand, and it was hard for me to stop reading this book, even though this novel has some sad scenes. I liked the way the author made Kimberley's personality. Kimberly's courageous character, which seems suitable to the story's atmosphere full of discrimination scenes, made the story much more enjoyable. Also, the author did a good job introducing themes that had been the problems in the world for a long time. For instance, the author introduced things like racial problems, bullying, and discrimination. These kinds of things could mess up someone's life in real life.
What I didn't like about this book was there were missing pieces of the story in several parts. For instance, Kim was supposed to visit her other family in Mexico for one week. However, the author only wrote events on the first day and not the rest of the days. I wish the author tried to fill in the missing pieces of the story, so readers could much more understand the characters.
Overall, I enjoyed reading this novel. I found no grammatical errors that could hinder reading the story, which means this novel has been perfectly edited. On that note, I will rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.
I will recommend this book to people who are interested in learning more about racial problems. Also, this book would make a good read in general because there were a lot of morals that could be found in the story.
