Review of Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat
Serendipity Mystery: Diary Of A Snoopy Cat is the seventh book in the Inca Cat Detective Series by R.F. Kristi. I was already familiar with Kristi’s work, and this book did not disappoint me: it is a great way to introduce young children to geography and history. In this new adventure, Inca takes us to Sri Lanka, a fascinating island with an exceptional historical heritage and marvellous golden beaches.
The Siberian cat Inca is vacationing with her human mom and her furry siblings, visiting Sri Lanka’s ruins and forests, when treasures of inestimable value (inter alia, an ancient sword) disappear in a local museum heist, along with the thieves. Is this another case for Inca’s detective agency?
I thoroughly appreciated this book: it was extremely entertaining and humorous. The first thing that meets the eye is the quality of the illustrations, colourful and striking. The characters’ essence was captured perfectly. I love the fact that Inca and her siblings get to interact with the local fauna, such as elephants, sea turtles, and leopards. Friendship and collaboration between different cultures are certainly important values that this book can teach its readers. It is also very informative in terms of geographical curiosities, not only to children: even I learned something! I appreciated the fact that Kristi did not skimp on more advanced words, but she promptly explained the meaning of them afterwards: children will effortlessly broaden their vocabulary.
There is absolutely nothing that I did not like about this book. I read the whole series, but this is probably my favourite volume: it will be a lovely and stimulating reading for curious children of school age, and I think it might be appealing to adults as well. I did spot close to no errors, and I believe this book was professionally edited. My rating is then 4 out of 4 stars.
