Review of E M P Honeymoon
E-M-P Honeymoon by Dorothy May Mercer is such an action-packed book that it took me a great while to find the words to use to describe it. For those who don’t know, EMP stands for electromagnetic pulse. It is basically a huge amount of energy that has the potential to be used as a nuclear weapon. This energy could be used to disintegrate large power grids, which would in turn cause damage to societies that are dependent on electricity.
Now imagine stumbling across something this huge on your honeymoon. Kelly and Tom are a newlywed couple who are spending their honeymoon in Honduras, a country in Central America. On a day that the two decided to part and spend time doing their own leisure activities, Kelly ended up in a seemingly normal store, only to stumble across something that she wasn’t meant to see. She is then chased away by a group of men. In a panic she calls her older brother, Senator Mike McBride, for help.
From there the story takes off as Kelly and her husband, who is a well-equipped police sergeant, strive to figure out who these suspicious men are and what they are planning. Throughout the book, the point of view shifts between a handful of characters consisting of, but not limited to: Kelly, Mike McBride, a handsome man who works for the CIA, and even the man behind the mystery who is referred to as DL.
Although I am a very big fan of action movies, I tend to find it difficult to find books that are just as captivating. This is a book that kept catching my eye so I thought that I would give it a try. It turned out to be a very enjoyable read! The author does so well with the character development, transitions and detail in the settings. I especially loved how I got to read about the story from different points of view. The writing is so good that I got lost in it. It was almost as if I was watching a movie.
Personally, I don't have anything negative to say about this book. One thing that other readers might view as a negative aspect is that it slows down towards the middle of the book. With that being said, I give this book a rating of 4 out of 4. This is due to its professional editing, extensive plot and amazing character descriptions. I truly admire how this author writes and will be mentioning this book to my friends. I can’t wait to see what’s next for May Mercer!
I recommend this book to young adult age groups and up who have a basic understanding of science and politics.
