Review by Y0landa -- Last Words from Above by Jeremy Brown
First and foremost, the title itself, Last Words from Above, is very powerful. The author, Jeremy Brown, describes this collection of 2001 quotes as “one large scroll that has just been discovered, but its wisdom dates back to the beginning of civilization and will still be relevant a thousand years from now.” Very interesting. As the author tries to build a close and trusting relationship with God, he begins to rise at 3 am almost regularly to listen out for His voice in the still of the night. Wow.
The introduction alone caught my attention. Now, did I flip through the 90 pages? No. Why not, if this is possibly one of the shortest books I’ve read in a while? As interested as I was, I could not flip through the pages. I had to stop and reflect on these special quotes. They were packed with enlightenment and wisdom. Now, this answers my next question, is this book truly inspired by God as the author states?
I would not doubt it for one moment. The colorful quotes cover an array of emotions and just to name a few are love, fear, joy, anxiety, envy, excitement, triumph, humility, and pride. They give insight to everyday encounters in life with matters like money, ego, success, failure, spirit, free will, purpose, faith, insecurities, distractions, science, the world, and the list goes on. God and Satan are mentioned in quotes throughout the book.
What I liked most about this book was that I didn't come across a single quote I did not find favorable. I found many to be a great lesson in life cleverly summarized in one phrase. I felt that through the author's life experiences, he was able to learn lessons and teach others by writing this book. I feel these valuable quotes will help people with common problems they may face in life.
If I have to express one thing I disliked most about the book, it would be that I would have preferred for the quotes to be divided and categorized into different sections making it easier for the reader to find what they are looking for.
It was a long but pleasant read. I was not distracted by any grammatical errors. This book is not only for Christians. I recommend this book to anyone who likes to reflect on life and those who enjoy quotes that are full of wisdom, inspiration, and motivation. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.
