Kat’s birthday is coming up, and she wants a unicorn! Of course, the best place to get one is online. A quick look at the customer reviews, a drop in the shopping cart, and it’s done—Uni Express will have her ready. Sadly, Starlight the unicorn looked nothing like her profile picture. She hasn't bathed in 21 days. Will Kat’s birthday party be a disaster?

Written by Sarina Siebenaler, Do Not Wish for a Birthday Unicorn! is a hypnotic tale filled with humor, unexpected outcomes, and tender moments—these qualities already serve as positive traits. The book is part of Siebenaler's Silly Books for Kids Collection!

The engaging plotline and wise word choice are positive traits, which inspire imagination and playfulness. I loved the idea of shopping online for a real unicorn. Moreover, Siebenaler kept her promise to encourage children's literacy. The decent word count is hearty, and I was reading rather than jumping through single-worded pages. The vocabulary is put together in well-thought-out rhymes. Even the text format is exciting, with keywords in different fonts and colors.

One of my favorite parts is Kat’s reaction towards the unattractive unicorn. Instead of pouting or throwing a tantrum, Kat showed kindness and patience. This is great for building positive behaviors in little ones. As a plus, there is a list of reading comprehension questions at the end—caregivers will be pleased.

The vibrant and mesmerizing digital graphics are done by Gabby Correia. Their attention-grabbing details felt like sifting through a birthday goodie bag. For instance, the pencil drawing of a unicorn and the cake sprinkles on the table. My favorite detail is the clever insertion of the ostrich from the author’s first book. In addition, the images show a diverse guest list, with multiethnic representation. There is a child in a wheelchair, which I thought is important.

This story has everything a unicorn-lover could wish for: parties, glitter, and a lively tale. I rate it a 4 out of 4 stars. A lesser rating would be a felony, and I mean it. Moreover, the editing is absolutely exceptional, since I found zero errors. Also, I disliked nothing, and there was nothing negative about this book.

I highly recommend this book as a birthday present for any sparkle-themed parties. Children, who enjoy make-believe, will be enchanted by this one. Unless you suffer from monokerophobia, I can’t think of anyone who shouldn’t read this book.

Unicorn-loving kids are almost everywhere. This would be really interesting for them. The book reminded me when I get frustrated by an online purchase that looks nothing as expected. Nice review.

The cover is lovely and the story sounds amazing. Online shopping for a unicorn and then what you see is not what you get.
Thank you for a great review!

The book reminds me of a saying where I live. People say it when they make an online purchase and don't get it like they expected. The saying is, "What I ordered versus what I got."
