Its something you can do at your own time.
There are so many different writers all writing in their own special way and so many titles and themes to choose from your spoil for choice almost like a kid in a candy shop kind of way.
I love how sometimes you can put your self in the characters shoes and you can almost believe thats you in that book.
Its wonderful sometimes to put your feet up or soak in a bath and have time alone whats more better to do is to get lost in your own world for a bit.
ideal for beach alone moments and sunny days in the garden.
readings peaceful and can be fun an adventurous taking you on journeys you can only dream of.

Also, I love knowing that I'm not alone. That another person, even if it's a fictional character, has felt what I'm feeling. When I'm angry, the anger of another person soothes me, as crazy as that may sound.

When you find a book that has a topic you like, simple or complex/horrific or sweet, there's nothing like losing yourself in a story. If the author you choose paints a picture of exotic locations you've always wanted to visit, gives details for elaborately decorated homes, or describes architecture and landscapes on far away planets to the extent that you can visualize them, then your goal for that book has reached.
You are metaphorically transported to beaches with purple sand or you '''see''' a horizon on a planet with a sun radiating different shades of red and your own world drops by the wayside for a while.
I do have over-lapping genres that I like/prefer to read, but if the synopsis of a different kind of story grabs my attention, I have no problem with stepping out of my regular comfort zone. It just gives me another avenue to tread and lose myself.

(a.) for information. For this reason I make sure to keep tab on the latest in self-help and topics like managing personal finances, writing effective emails, etc.
(b.) for inspiration. Having gone through more than several "rough patches" in life, I needed something to steer me towards a more positive outlook.
(c.) for pleasure and recreation. I'm most especially pleased when I get books as birthday presents, because that happens once in a blue moon, as I can afford to pay for my own books. I also shop fairly regularly at this second-hand bookstore because they have Michael Crichton and Michael Connelly paperbacks at greatly reduced prices.
(d.) because books are a great topic for conversation. I've made several long-term friends just by sharing my thoughts on books that we find mutually interesting.
