The book seems interesting and intriguing. The period of immigration to the USA in the 19th century is really interesting and we definitely do not know all the hardships the Irish people went through as they were trying to adjust to their new lives in a new land. Congratulations on becoming BOTD!

Barbie_sidhu, your enjoyment of the book shows through in your review. So much so that I would really like to read it too. The tales of Irish immigrants, the struggles of integrating, the family history and real historical events coupled with the shortness of the book and the bonus educational detail on playing cards all make this seem like the perfect 'lazy-day' read. Thank you.

A historical story about the life of an Irish immigrant family truly opens the reader's eyes to the harsh reality of the hard life immigrants have to live from back in time, even until now.

From a sampling, this seems like an interesting memoir about a family of Irish immigrants and the mystery behind the "death" of William Murray that supposedly died in the Civil War but never enlisted or died in the war. It might be worth a second look. Well done.

I generally enjoy historical fiction but haven't really picked up historical non-fiction books. I like that this book is short, giving the readers enough information without making the book feel long and tedious to get through. Following this Irish family and the events that surrounded them throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries will be interesting. Congrats on the BOTD selection!

A genuine account of an Irish immigrant family laced with mystery, politics and family stories. I believe this historical fiction would make a great read. Thanks for your review.

This looks like an interesting account of an immigrant family. I am especially interested considering my own family can be traced back to Scotland and Ireland and I have thoroughly enjoyed digging into my family history from time to time. I look forward to reading this short but obviously full account.

I’m looking forward to digging into this book to find out the mystery behind Murray’s disappearance and some facts about the history of printing presses and the manufacturing of playing cards that are still used. A lot to offer to the readers! Congrats!

'Official Review: Colors' by Samuel J Murray has a solid introduction! It is a glimpse into the life of an Irish family in the slums of Brooklyn in the mid-nineteenth century for readers! The point that the book contains the accounts of the author's ancestors is worth mentioning in the review! Also, the point that the book will enlighten the readers about the history of printing presses and the manufacturing of playing cards that are still used, as mentioned in the review, is remarkable for readers! It was great to learn that the book is an amazing account of an untold story that has links to Irish immigration!

It's fascinating that the author was able to trace his roots to the nineteenth century. And covering three centuries in 130 pages is no mean feat.
