The Drug-Free Sleep Solution: The Four-Week Program for Overcoming Insomnia Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy by David Durocher is an amazing systematic program that allows the reader to understand how they can obtain a better nighttime routine for a sound night of sleep.

I have been battling with mild insomnia for the last couple of years, and I have been looking for a drug-free solution to my problem for quite some time without much success. When I chose to review this book, I was cautiously optimistic that this would be the answer to my problem.

Durocher has a psychology background and has done vast research for publishing this book. He starts by explaining basic facts about insomnia, the different types you can experience, the effects insomnia can have on your mental and physical well-being, and then details how to go about using his book for your benefit.

The book has an interactive element that needs to be adhered to for a minimum of 4 weeks to see true results. I thoroughly enjoyed this component, as it was a useful guide with comprehensive instructions. It allows the reader to easily create a sleep routine that can be maintained indefinitely. The simple act of keeping a sleep diary allowed me to find where I had been making mistakes with my sleep hygiene. This allowed me to self-correct.

Delightfully, the book contained only a single error, leading me to believe that it was professionally edited. There was no profanity or explicit content. There is a chapter that refers to religious and spiritual beliefs. Non-religious readers can easily skip this chapter and move on to the next. Christian readers will find this chapter to be a helpful tool as part of this program.

This book is aimed at a certain demographic, namely insomniacs, but it would not hurt to have the information on hand for people who are not struggling with sleep currently. The human race has developed poor sleeping habits and bad bedtime routines over the years, and this book will assist its readers with getting back to the healthy routines requires for a good night’s rest.

There was nothing a disliked about this book, and I would recommend it to anyone struggling with insomnia. My takeaway was that a healthy nighttime routine could make a huge difference in the quality and quantity of sleep for any individual. I would not recommend the book to children, as the text might be a little too advanced for their understanding.

I am happily rating this book a perfect score of 4 out of 4 stars.
