I liked Jared! Even though he did not have such a major part throughout the book, I enjoyed seeing him come out of his shell and enjoying the outdoors. His willingness to help uncover the truth, even behind his mother's back showed real courage. His ability to be a bigger person with his bullies was also heartwarming to see.

There are many characters to be liked in the book. I liked Sarah's character and her bravery from the very beginning.

My favorite character was Victoria. I haven't finished reading it but I know she is a good woman trying to do what is best for her and her son. I loved Jared too. These are two people that start the story one way and end up with a very different way of being and thinking. I know that they were marked by their experiences and it's starting to force decisions from them they never would have anticipated doing. Jared is still growing but I think he is figuring out what matters and doesn't matter and what type of young man he wants to become. Victoria has to decide what she is willing to do in the name of her project and what she is willing to allow in the name of her own spirit. It moving to see these changes play out.

My favorite character from this book is Sarah Cooley. I love her courageous nature, and she has an immovable place in my heart right from the point she said, "I win my fights. I don't pick fights, but I don't back down."

Probably Myra but don't sweat Sarah is a very close second. I think I can relate more to Myra. But then again I haven't read the whole series.

My favorite character was Myra. She is a best friend of Sara. I liked her when she guessed and discovered that the intention of the mining company was business rather than environmental dignity as they pretend to be.

Tom-Tom was my favorite character. He was always there for Sarah when she needed him the most, even though she thought he was boring and strict. Even though she was unpleasant and unruly, Tom-Tom took her in and took excellent care of her. Instead of being cruel and evicting Sarah, Tom-Tom was always gentle and patient with her, even if it was only for a short time. This made my heart happy.
