Review of Into the Well
Into the Well is a book by Bobbie R. Byrd. It is the second book in the Warlock Chronicles. It revolves around Admiral Bastion and Lady Silver, a warlock of indeterminate power and the only one of her kind. They set out to repair the breach scientists made millennia ago. We see the numerous trials and tribulations the Maelstrom and her passengers pass through. They show total efficiency and dedication to their works. Also, we see the kind of love the Admiral and Lady Silver have for each other. They both knew that in going to repair the breach, a series of events would occur. They were ready to face whatever circumstances they met. Would they be able to complete their mission successfully?
The book had a lot of positive aspects. The first is the diction. The author's writing style really appealed to me. It was engaging and quite interesting. Also, the seamless fusion of science and fantasy is something I can't help but applaud; it is amazing. Again, I saw the power of determination and perseverance. Despite all the attacks made on the ship, the crew persevered. Also, even though Bastion and Bryanna knew that they both had high chances of dying while repairing the breach, they continued, preferring to die for the greater good. This teaches bravery even in the face of adverse circumstances. We also see the brilliance of the antagonists. These people were genuinely evil, but one cannot help but appreciate their brilliance. Also, we see the power of good friendship, for instance, Bryanna and her friend. This book is exceptionally well edited; I could not find any errors in it.
This book is not without negative aspects too. I felt that some of the characters did not seem to have been properly developed. I also found the character of Lady Silver somewhat annoying at some point. To a large extent, her behavior regarding her private life seemed quite unbelievable for the kind of character she was.
I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars because while the book was a fantastic read, the negative aspect mentioned above was prevalent and made me not enjoy the book as much as I would have if the female protagonist had been firmer and had more self-pride.
I recommend this book to people above the age of seventeen. This is because of the language and slight sexual content. Due to its intense language, I do not recommend this book to people below this age. This book is also recommended to people who enjoy reading science-fiction novels.
