On The Road by Jack Kerouac

Post by readertim109 »

Has anyone read On The Road by Jack Kerouac? My friend recommended it to me, saying that I would really like it. I'll have to go to the store and buy it, if I wish to read it. Before I do that, I want some other feedback? Is it a good book? Is Jack Kerouac a good author? Has anyone read any of his other work?

Yeah, it is definitely a good book. You have to love Dean!!! If you like beat writers, you'll like the book...sex, drugs, and travel...what more can you ask for?

He is one of my all time favorites. I love the Beatniks, and Jack has a very strong voice. On the Road is a great one to start with. Vonnegut is also good.

i loved the book and one reason was the beautiful descriptions the author uses to tell us about the land surrounding the characters as well as the sights, the sounds, the smells. there were so many interesting little characters in the book and they all were fascinating despite the fact they were only briefly mentioned in the book. but dean has to be the most dynamic one of them all. anyway...would probably read another kerouc book when i get a chance. any suggestions? i think big sur brings dean back..?

I just recently read On The Road. I liked it, but I didn't love it. Although I can relate to the desire to just go out and live life to the fullest, I like novels that have more drama. In a way, it was almost too socially realistic for me.

I didn't like it at all. Then again, I'm a huge fan of pop fiction. ON THE ROAD is more literature.

I didn't like this at all either. I'm all for following your heart but I just found some of the characters in the book totally selfish and completely unware of how their actions were affecting those around them.

It's funny how most people here didn't seem to like the book much, but yet the book is so popular. I wonder why that is.
