I actually haven't read the prequels but after reading this third installment (which I really liked) I'm planning on reading the first two. I also think that reading them will help me understand the plot better, even though I thought that the book worked fairly well as a standalone as well

No, I have; I don't think I would either, even though I found this book very interesting. I don't like backtracking after reading book series.

I haven't read the prequels but am going to go back and do so. Totem can be read as a stand-alone novel. I had no prior knowledge of any of the events it mentioned, but still fully enjoyed the story.

I have not read the prequels but I have been able to read the reviews of the prequels. I believe that this book can be a standalone book but it'd be nice to read the prequels. It'd help the reader to flow well.

No I haven't read the prequels but it should be of better decision to do so because it will definitely bring more light to part three.

No, I have not read the prequels of Totem (Strong Heart No 3). However, I would love to. This is because Strong Heart No 3 is so well written and interesting. One learns a lot about Indian culture and history. The cover of the book is not my favourite part, as it's misleading and does not depict the contents.

I always read the first book that I come in contact with, whether that's the first book in the series or not.

I've read Strong Heart 1, and it's amazing. While Totem can be read as a standalone, I think it's best to read the prequels first.

I have not read the form #1 and #2 but I understand the form three as it can be read alone

Although this book can be read as a standalone, it is more beneficial to read the prequels first. Reading the books that came before this one makes it easier to pick up the story at a fast pace and also to fully enjoy the series of the books. A person who has read the previous books stands to be more intrigued with this one than someone who just started without any background knowledge.

The problem that I have with the books in a book series is the fact that they tend to be a lot more different from one another than they are alike. Sometimes there are different characters, or (worse?) the same characters seem different. As tempting as it can be to find out what happens next, I've found that stuff tends to happen that I'd rather not know, like a couple who got married in the first book getting divorced in the second one.

I'm the same way. I either read the first book first or I don't read it at all. I'd love to ask those who do just how they do it.

I have not read the prequels since this book is a standalone. But I believe that reading the prequels will help you fully grasp the implications of the story.
