This book is a lot to take in. I do not mind that a book is tragic, as life usually has a quota of tragedy and we cannot avoid it. I've found that tragic books are often the most relatable ones. However, when the protagonist is a 9-year-old boy, that tragedy seems worse.
The authors talk about sensitive topics, and some readers might find that triggering, I appreciate the warning.
I do not like graphic imagery of death, violence, or abuse, so this book does not sound like my cup of tea.

A dark mystery book whose main character is a nine-year-old boy. Disturbing topics are covered like death, murder, abuse, racism, gender discrimination, sexual perversion, poverty, and mental illness. However, it also offers an attractive touch of intrigue, suspense, mystery, and thrill.

Wow. I'm very torn about whether to read this book. It sounds amazing but some of the topics are hard to handle. Congratulations on BOTD!

In addressing domestic violence and abuse, the authors present Vander’s mum, Amahle. Readers may find themselves asking the same frustrating questions that we constantly ask about women in abusive marriages: why stay? The disappointing answer to this question will probably indicate the inefficiency with which national governments and international human rights agencies have treated the structures for handling such matters.
I think it's much more complex than that. For sure governmental help is an important part of it, but there's also a huge psychological restrain, what psychologists call "learned helplessness," and usually a financial dependence that needs to be considered.
I never expected this book to be so grim.
Thank you for your detailed review.

One cannot help feel sorry for a boy that prefers his dreams where he believes he is in another place, rather than the grim surroundings of what should be family. The content however is not something I would enjoy reading.

This sounds like an intriguing book, but it doesn't fit into my books I would want to read! I don't care for a lot of Violence. I'm sure those who like this type of story will love the book, but I am going to pass on this one! Thanks for the informative review!

Graphical imagery of death, violence, and abuse do not bother me, hence I would go ahead to read the book because I find the storyline captivating. Congrats on being the book of the day!

This is my kind of book. Am on the crime, thriller, murder, and horror side. This book would set the pace and I can't stop myself from wondering what it says about the black race, since am black myself. Would like to read this book to see what it says. Thanks for the review.

The review is raw and lays all the cards on the table. However I do find the plot fascinating the genre mentioned are not the ones I read. Violence and gore dont bother me but mix children in them and I am out. Congrats on BOTD.

The book revolves around the life of a young boy, Vander Masozi, who finds himself in the middle of a series of events that his young mind struggles to make sense of because of his abilities and lot in life. The authors subtly touch on the age-long gender bias and racism. It is a captivating read.
The review is awesome.

Sounds intriguing. Growing up under the watch of an abusive parent can be traumatizing for any child. I would like to read this book to find out the effects this had on him especially as he had a supernatural ability.
