Each chapter gives an insider's view of the other characters including the violence and death. Vander's mom Amahle continues to stay in an abusive marriage and of course one has to ask why she stays. The book ventures into gender discrimination, racism, murders, sexual perversions and poverty and is difficult for a young boy to endure. Government corruption went on for the entire time the past president was in power and it is going to take a long time to root out this corruption including the police force. A very thorough review and definitely a book to read.
