Vander seems to have overcome the problems in his life; it's unfortunate that he had to deal with so much at a young age. Congratulations on BOTD!

This genre is not my "cup of tea" but the story is quite fascinating despite the grave theme. I may give it a try.

I must say I am impressed by the review, the dark gritty book combined with emotional thriller with questions on morality. Thanks for the review.

It's interesting how the author has mixed together fantasy with social issues. Violence and abuse are present in many home unfortunately. And they form one the biggest problems in society. great review

Very compelling. I thought this is an action-adventure book but your review has piqued my curiosity. I'm so curious how the story flows. Can't wait to read the whole book, so glad this is free today. Thanks

This seems to be a book that digs down to the meat and bones of real life situations, like addiction, abuse, poverty, violence and death. Also the aspect of children growing up too fast and taking up the responsibility of being the adult in the situation. The above review clearly shows that even though there are tragic events that happen in this book there is also a suggestion of there being a light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you for a truly intriguing and detailed review. I have added this my library and cannot wait to start reading it.

This is an interesting and intriguing novel. It deals with a lot of issues thus making it educational as much as it is entertaining. A new dark world is exposed to us, a world thought buried in the 20th century as issues such as racism, gender discrimination and domestic abuse still exist in their darkest form. Therefore this thriller is a must read so as to understand the world around us, as well as the many different characters in it.

This emotion-laden C/T/M/H novel set in South Africa that also discusses the law situation of the country seems interesting to me. The violent elements in the novel could be disturbing for some people. Thank you for the review!

This is a mystery thriller. The protogonist struggles to provide food and sustenance for his family to prevent his father from abusing him and his mother. All this while, he struggles with a scary supernatural gift that gives him access to a terrifying world where he strangely finds reprieve. It has death, murders, abuse, racism, gender discrimination, sexual perversion, and poverty to mental ailment and religious compromises. A well written book and book review. Congratulations on the BOTD!
