Marked - P.C and Kirsten Cast - Spoilers!

Post by Bookworm_Megan »

I felt apprehensive when I first noticed this book. Books with two authors rarely go well due to conflicting ideas, I thought a mother-daughter one would be ten times worse!! I was wrong. This book brought a whole new spin on the vampire genre! It was no longer a secret world the character spent the novel trying to discover, it was clear and out in the open.

I was fascinated by the marking of Zoey Redbird by the Tracker. It seemed such an unusual process, no biting or injecting (as in the case of Twilight), but a simple touch to the forehead. The fact Zoey's mother was married to a religious zealot, highly against vampires, added conflict!

The House Of Night itself was also fascinating. A school intended to help them survive! The character of Neferet seemed originally good and helpful but that perception rapidly changed. As Zoey's power over the five elements grew and became clear, the sinister side of Neferet started to show. On top of that Zoey had to deal with regular teenage problems of boys (Erik Night  ), bitches and studying or in this case not dying.

Mostly Zoey narrates the story with good humour and an inner sarcastic voice. Her good intensions combined with her hope that she has finally found a place where she can belong, a place that nobody can take away from her, make her an endearing and engaging character.
Marked is a fascinating read and a good start to the House of Night vampire fantasy series
