I believe that even from the beginning the cover gives you a glimpse of the problem related in the book, racism for example. And there are little hints that direct you to Vietnam, like the hats the people are wearing. Although is not a direct reference to what the story is actually about, after you read the book, you can see the hints on the cover.

The cover is a little deceptive. I thought it was a cop trying to detain an unlawful black person. It did not immediately speak to racism.

Honestly the cover art did not appeal to me in the slightest and I probably would have passed the book had I not known what it was about. I do not enjoy violent war stories so my immediate response to the cover art would have a been a no. Though cant wait to check the book out now since I've read the review

The cover of the book is an ideal example of not judging a book by its cover. It is metaphorical and not understandable by all. It deals with the centre premise of the book that is racism in a subtle manner. Therefore, the cover isn’t interesting enough for everybody to get attracted to read it despite it’s strong plot.

At first glance, I had to look away when I saw the cover, then I looked at it again a bit closer and was very sad especially for the lady. I did like the lighter background color however.
It is odd that the black man is watching and not offering any help, if he is close enough to do so, unless it’s on a screen.
The cover goes along well with the story in the book.

At first glance, one sees chaos. This could be anything related to any type of violence. Racism is subtle and aggressive but not depicted here. There should be a distinct look or action captured. The cover is too general. Don’t like it much, sorry.

I believe a major theme in the book is racism, and that is effectively highlighted by the art cover of the book. The images depict different races with one race turning against the other, summarizing the experience of black soldiers among their white counterparts during the war.

The cover does not reveal much, however, it is appropriate and, in my opinion, sufficient. I am not a big fan of book covers though, I actually tend to get convinced by the book summary more than I do, the cover. Just like the saying goes, "do not judge a book by it's cover," that could turn out to be very misleading.

The cover of the book felt very chaotic. I only understood the cover when I read the book. This might have a negative effect on bookshelves on the market, as books are ironically judged by their cover.

The cover was eye-catching, and at first glance, it was easy to understand that the novel was related to racism. I believe the cover art was a bit misleading at first. If I only saw the cover, I thought it would be about society in Vietnam and an ordinary person's perspective of racism during those times; however, it made more sense after reading the novel about a soldier's view and living with racism.
I would not have decided to read this novel based on the cover alone.

The alienation in another land and sufferings as you struggle in a new environment is real. The cover reveals the spectators who just watch as the lady is harassed by the police officer. They also portray those who don't bother as others are struggling in oppressive situations.

The cover honestly put me off at the beginning. This is because war elicits a variety of feelings in me. I don't like seeing people suffering or in distress. But after reading, it's an unfortunate reality of the world we live in. Pretending it does not exist does not help anyone. I learnt quite a lot to do with racism and war.

I actually liked the cover of the book since it seems to be in-line with the overall plot. However, I would have preferred a monochrome colour scheme to better highlight the aspect of war in the story.

The book's cover is what compelled me to read the book. I wondered why this police would be treating a woman like that and more importantly why were the people watching not doing anything. Good art sparks a reactions and my reaction was to read the book and make sense of the book cover. I believe the book cover does a great job of grabbing people's attention. Just like it did mine.

At first it seemed like a somewhat chaotic scene but once I started reading it seemed very appropriate and I think it was a very good choice.

What do you think?
I usually think it's unfair judging the book by the cover. Sad but true, it's what many people do just that. I would rather judge the cover by the book, and to me, it's just okay. The graphics go well with the title... The man in the background holding a knife over another, among other little peaky details compliment the overall message. Aesthetically, though, it's not quite to the mark.
