Our existence makes us fail to appreciate the very essence of life. Have you ever pondered on the death of humanity and its possibility? If yes, then the Utopia Project: The Frayed Threads of Hope by Billy Dering Is ideally suited for you. This second book of the Utopia Project series will make you think beyond the ordinary and expect the unforeseen.

In this series, Kid Carlson and his friends plan their future in a residue of the world they once knew. They made new relationships along the way and journeyed into the future of uncertainty. The book is divided into five parts. The first part tells the story of the night before the tragic event that changed the world. Part Two discussed the details of the aftermath that led to the obliteration of creating a new world. In Part Three, the author goes back in time to expose the deceit that occurred while the women were held captive. He also revealed unimaginable secrets. The fourth part focused on the relationship between Heidi Leer and Kid Carlson. It also talked about the root of the new world. The final part discussed the struggle between the old and the new world.

Billy Dering’s ideology is something to be admired. I must commend him for creating another fascinating series with more plot layers than an onion. And these layers were interconnected across the series, making the book more intriguing. Also, he ensured an excellent balance between the past and the current events throughout the narrative. The suspense tool was well managed. The story took another dimension when one of the characters resurfaced.

Furthermore, the characterization is splendid and relatable. For instance, Kid Carlson and Heidi Leer were like cats and dogs in the first series. However, despite their rough start, we find these two individuals developing a close connection in this series. The author ensured an easy transition of emotions on Heidi from being combative to being loving. This scene resonates with me because I had once experienced that kind of bond. I see no reason to deduct a star from this book. Moreover, there is nothing to dislike about the book. Therefore, I am rating the book 4 out of 4 stars because of the aforementioned reasons.

Also, with flashbacks, Billy Dering takes the reader through rollercoasters of Sarah’s experience and Karen Stone’s experience with Scott. The author was able to blend new characters into the plot seamlessly. Clarence and Marissa Moore, Evelyn’s neighbours, were among the new characters who determined to create a contemporary society. Also, in this series, Karen, who Sara (Kid Carlson’s girlfriend) thought was dead, Wendy, James, and Melanie were saved.

This book will make an excellent movie. When I reviewed the first book, Utopia Project: Everyone Must Die, my favourite character was Kid Carlson because he was a natural-born leader and had other remarkable attributes. However, General Eric (Sara’s father) becomes my favourite character in this second series, despite hating him in the first series. His bravery was exceptional. I love the scene where he reunited with his family and reviewed a fascinating surprise. Despite his ego and other characters’ perception of him, he was ready to make amends.

The book’s writing is exquisite. Every detail was well structured, and nothing was overlooked. Another appreciative element in this book is the author’s descriptive strength. I enjoyed the advanced technological tools used to create a new world. I would highly recommend this book to lovers of sci-fi stories. Also, this is a well-edited book, as I noticed only two minor errors.

On a final note, the journey is far from over. I eagerly await the sequel to see what happens to Heidi’s last hope, Kid Carlson, Sara, and other survivors.

The apparent end of old world and making of a new residue world must make the brilliant story especially when the old world still seems to exist in a different way. I feel that reading the first book in this series will help in enjoying the overall concept. Thanks for a nice review.

It already had me by the world they once knew because it can so easily happen in this day and age that we are living in with World War 3 looming, so I would imagine that this is no different. The story is one that engages the mind before even reading it and the characters go from being hated to being loved, I enjoy those types of rollercoaster relationships.
