What do you know about the charismatic gifts of the Holy Spirit? Deacon Michael Wesley presents an excellent opportunity for us to learn about this topic as we delve into his book, The L.I.G.H.T. Seminar: Living in the Gifts of the Holy Trinity. In this book, the author acquaints readers with these gifts with the purpose of putting us in the best positions to serve God and achieve holiness. Regardless of who we are, there are different ways we can all serve God and become an example to draw more people to Him, and every gift and method of service to Him is just as important as the other. However, the first step entails having an open heart towards serving God.

Deacon Michael Wesley has done a commendable job of touching on a significant aspect of spirituality that many of us are guilty of ignoring. One of the things that stood out for me was the wealth of knowledge the author put on display throughout the pages of this book, drawing from God's word in a confident tone to not only detail the gifts of the Holy Spirit but also to debunk certain misconceptions about them. He maintains that there are numerous gifts, including the well-known seven gifts of the Holy Spirit (wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord), the gifts of service (prophecy, teaching, encouragement, leadership, mercy, and service), as well as wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, and more.

Also, reading this book was like an exercise in self-discovery for me, as the author did well to raise several thought-provoking questions that I could personalize at the end of each chapter, which revolved around uncovering what my gifts are and how I can serve. Detailed and applicable guidance is also offered in simple language to help readers process these questions and come to the right conclusions.

In the spirit of his belief that including first-hand experiences makes the gift of teaching more effective, Deacon Michael Wesley does very well to take us through periods of his life when he encountered the gifts of the Holy Spirit. One that particularly stood out to me was how he was completely healed by God after an accident in which the doctors were sure of a negative outcome. I have found myself doubting the existence of miracles in modern times, but the author successfully changed my perspective by approaching the subject differently.

"Sometimes God will give us the miracle we ask for, but he wants us to participate with Him in getting it." - Page 67.

Furthermore, The L.I.G.H.T. Seminar is a professionally edited book. I did come across a couple of minor errors and some awkward sentences, but they did not do much to derail my reading experience.

Overall, I found reading this book to be an enlightening experience. The author even goes further to inform us of the spiritual warfare that we usually ignore while arming us effectively to be able to defeat evil when it comes. I cannot think of any aspect of the book I do not like as well. Therefore, a rating of four out of four stars is in order. Any reader who wants to develop a close relationship with God will greatly benefit from this book.
