This review is indeed captivating. The courage of a young man to deal against the betrayal of his father towards the emperor, the guilty father trying to figure out ways to prove himself, and lots more surely will drive us crazy throughout the read. Thank you for the review!

Will Lucius pay for the purported sins of his father, and his own ambitions? Will the Emperor take him under his wing? This, to me, is the summary of this short story, as per the review. Very interesting with an open - ending. A great historical thriller. Hope to read this. I mean politics, with a touch of mystery and ambition? Probably unrequited love too!’

This is an interesting historical fiction novel highlighting ancient Roman culture, a unique protagonist, and a fast-paced plot. The book is temporarily free on Amazon Kindle and has a well-written OnlineBookClub review. Congrats @linneatanner on the BOTD selection.

There seems to be some political intrigue in this short story, a characteristic of that era when alliances could change any day and betrayals were normal in the struggle for power. Thank you for your great review!

I love historical fiction, and this one sounds like one I might enjoy. I especially enjoy the stories about kings, queens, and empowers and this one seems to have it all. Very nice review!

I'm a fan of ancient Rome so this is a definitely going to the 'want to read' list. I haven't read a short story before but I'd love to try this out. Hopefully, the ending isn't too open.

Good work on reviewing this short story. It's interesting to read about life with an emperor who has the power of life and death. The main character thought his relationship with the emperor would give him a head start on his career, but the relationship threatened his life instead. Very interesting.

It appears that the plot and dialogues written precisely. But, I am not a massive fan of historical fiction. So, I am going to pass this one. Thanks for this informative review.

This story is set in ancient Rome. It explores the themes of love and politics. Lucius, a young, ambitious man who wants to get ahead politically. Will the emperor overlook events of the past and give Lucius his unwavering support? Interesting book and a good book review. Congratulations on the BOTD!

One of the things I will always be grateful to the OnlineBookClub for is introduction to Linnea Tanner. After reading a couple of her books by recommendations, I no longer need reviews to know what an excellent adventure I am about to find in the book. I follow the author now and am eager for each new works published. Great book and well deserved congrats on BOTD!

Oh my, I have a soft spot in everything that is somehow connected to ancient Rome. This story seems to be an interesting example of how our fathers bad deeds affect our lives. I wonder if Lucius had to pay for his father’s mistakes or if he was able to shake off the burden of his family. Thanks for the nice review!

His father, Lullus, allegedly betrayed the emperor's trust by openly committing adultery with his daughter, Julia. In addition to that, the emperor believes Lullus has plans to overthrow him. Will Lullus be spared from punishment by the emperor? Will Lullus' escapades affect his son's chances of riding on the emperor's back to gain political relevance? or will the emperor overlook events of the past and give Lucius his unwavering support? Find out by reading this interesting short story.
That's adultery and incest. God, the Romans were such a... controversial culture.
I love history, and the name of Linnea Tanner is a guarantee of a fascinating story to come, so I'll add this to my to-read shelf.
Thank you!
