As I don't understand most poetry I read, I can never really appreciate them. I'm glad to know that books like these exist for readers like me.

This looks like a straight-forward look at poetry, written in easily understood terminology. I like the way the author compares poetry to music and illustrates how both utilize rhyme and rhythm.

I really liked the book's approach in dealing with poetry. The author is very thorough and makes important clarifications early on, such as the idea of "proper poetry" and how this idea turns people away from poetry. In addition, the author also defends poetry as a repository of human experience and a reflection of the internal world. I am personally very enthusiastic about using literature and poetry as a basis for analysis in my field of study, which is International Relations. I am sure it would be an excellent read for me.

I think when it comes to poetry, trying to connect to your audience is what defines it. I think this book would do justice to what true poetry is like. Thanks for the review.
