Review of Simply How to Meditate
Simply How to Meditate is a book written by Jim Collison. The book has eighteen chapters. It is a non-fictional self-help book born out of the author's desire to pass along his personal experience and in-depth research on the subject matter of meditation to the novice. The book is designed to ensure that regardless of lifestyle, religion, or occupation, the reader understands the benefits of meditation and puts its exercises to practice within minutes of studying it.
This book begins with Jim Collison assuring the reader that the smartest thing you will ever do to succeed in your life is to start reading the book and meditating. He went ahead to state some significant benefits of meditation, such as improvements in breathing and escape from the mental stress of normal life. He also gives the ingredients for meditation. Are you a busy person looking to reduce your stress level? Are you an athlete seeking to improve your performance? Do you seek answers to some of your deep life questions? This book, Simply How to Meditate, provides meditation as a powerful answer to improve virtually every aspect of life.
Jim Collison must be applauded and appreciated for the simplicity of vocabulary used to explain this complex topic, meditation. His use of personal experiences, stories and examples makes the book very relatable and easy to understand. Another point in the book's favor is its practicability. The book is filled with step-by-step instructions for deep breathing exercises, mantra creations, and affirmation examples. It makes for immediate practice as you read. Also, Jim gives attention to scientific research, citing multiple references to support his claims, thus increasing his credibility. He mentioned as many as sixteen different meditation exercises addressing various issues and effecting positive change in different areas of life.
I especially enjoyed the restrained length of the book. Simply How to Meditate has a few personal stories and references. At the end of the book, Jim gives four afterword notes addressing issues like what to do if you don't have a mind's eye, his influences for the book, and other forms of meditations not fully explored in the book. This cumulates the book into a wholesome experience.
I found a few errors in the book. However, they did not take much away from the book. The errors are not enough for me to deduct any points. Therefore, I rate Jim Collison's Simply How to Meditate 4 out of 4 stars.
I recommend this book to people in stressful occupations. It is also suitable for athletes and people looking to reduce stress and enjoy a more positive life. I encourage people to read this book.

I completely agree. I think self help books don't cite enough examples to back their theories. Besides, meditation can't be for everyone.Patty Allread wrote: ↑30 Mar 2022, 10:58 Personal examples and stories can help make a subject like meditation easier to understand. Thanks for your review.

On the contrary Amzes17, meditation is and should be for everyone. The idea that there is only one way to do it is what is wrong. You should try exploring the different forms and techniques and one that suits you.
