Naturally, children are scared of lightning and thunder. This book - Thunder and Lightning, They’re Not So Frightening - gives a firsthand look at how this little boy named William reacts to a bad thunderstorm that passes by his house and how he learns how to not be afraid. JD Schmith is the author of this story that resonates with millions of little kids throughout the world.

I applaud the author for writing a book about something that seriously concerns children. When I was little like William, I was scared of storms and the effects that came with them. This book shows the importance of comforting children during times when they are scared and letting them know that everything is going to be all right.

The artwork in this book is what I loved the most while reading this story. The drawings of William and his father are so realistic, that I thought it was a picture the illustrator copied and pasted on the pages. Even the abstract drawings of when it’s thunder and lightning outside and the blowing of trees from the huge gusts of wind were painted beautifully.

I would recommend parents read this book to their toddlers. This book will give them an excellent example to see how William has felt the same scared and anxious feelings that they have and how to overcome those worries.

Thunder and Lightning, They’re Not So Frightening was such a fun book to read that I’m giving it 4 out of 4 stars. It’s a short book of 9 pages that can be read within five minutes or less. There was no spelling or grammatical errors; it’s exceptionally well-edited. The topic is relatable that everyone has gone through when they’ve experienced their first huge storm as a child. There was nothing I disliked about this book.
