Beware of the Banker by Barry Somes is a crime story inspired by the true story of Bonnie and Clyde, the most notorious bank robbers in the history of the United States of America. It centers on the character of Tony, who is addicted to gambling and his addiction makes him lose all his money. He becomes desperate to pay off all his debts because he wants to go on and start a new life in Las Vegas. When he learns of Cady and Blake's fantasies of becoming famous, he employs them to be the modern-day Bonnie and Clyde. They are both ecstatic, especially Cady, who has always had a long-time dream to be Bonnie. They plan what is meant to be the biggest robbery in the history of Maine. Will they succeed with their plan, or will they meet a dead end sooner than they can imagine?

I most definitely loved the development of the characters in this novel. Barry Somes gave the reader a background on each of the characters, and that made for a better understanding of their actions and reactions to events that occurred in the story. The character of CT made the book more interesting to me; I was fascinated by his intelligence in solving crimes. Also, I liked how detailed the author was in explaining the bank activities; it made the book more realistic and relatable. I also liked how the story developed and how the scenes were not cut abruptly, leaving the reader to imagine the rest. The author was very detailed, especially during their final robbery. The detailed account allowed for a better portrayal of how the scene actually played out.

On the negative side, Beware of the Banker was predictable to an extent, and that affected how much I enjoyed it. I also picked some grammatical errors in the book. I felt those errors could have been avoided with better editing. For a crime novel, I expected more intense and prolonged actions, but none of that happened as almost each crime scene ended as quickly as it started.

For the reasons I stated in the third paragraph of this review, I rate Beware of the Banker 3 out of 4 stars. I had high expectations because of the plot of the story, which seemed to be based on the Bonnie and Clyde narrative, but the book didn't really meet my expectations. The book was professionally edited; I found a few errors in it.

I recommend this book to readers who are interested in crime novels. Also, those who love to read detective stories will enjoy this one.
