Review of Be smart be strong be along shes a sexathon
Be Smart, Be Strong, Be Along, She’s a Sexathon! by Goose Punk is a narration of the author’s eventful life and a commentary on various topics. These topics are numerous and different, so it is had to spot a central theme or pick similarities in the issues discussed. One can only surmise that Punk used this book as an avenue or opportunity to air his views on various personal issues.
The structure of the book is unique. Although concise in length, this book consists of many chapters, roughly two to three pages on average. Most topics cover aspects of the author’s personal life and his turbulent relationship with his family members. The book's tone itself is set with the prologue, which shares details of his experience after high school, after being kicked out by his mom, where he spent most of his time at Lake Whatcom center with his friends.
This book has a few positive aspects. Punk is brutally honest and brave, both in selecting what he chooses to discuss and his opinions about them. In the chapter “The President’s Plan Is Bad,” he criticizes Biden’s grace period during the height of the pandemic. Tenants were allowed not to pay rent for the duration of this period. However, “the tenants still owe a bill all at once for the rent they didn’t pay.” He says this was not a good policy after all.
Punk’s book also encourages readers toward self-determination and autonomy. In this book, he constantly bemoaned the treatment he received from his stepdad, who locked up his inheritance in a trust fund because he felt he knew what was best for him. This is the central theme in such topics as “I Call My Dad M-Lord And My Step-Dad Got Floored” and “Stole My Job And Stole My Lively Hood.”
However, this book also had a few negative aspects. Firstly, it was not professionally edited. I discovered many errors in this work, and for a book of such a short length, this feature will not endear this book to readers. Every book should leave a strong message in readers' hearts in the end. But it is difficult to underline or point out what this book’s central message is about. The author rambles from one topic to another, and the reader is left to wonder if this is just an exercise in the expression of the author’s diverse opinions.
The pictures which accompany the book are quite comical, and one wonders how they fit into the book’s topics. I also never got to see how the book's title related to its contents. I did, however, enjoy some of the poems interlaced between the topics discussed. Considering the book’s positive and negative points, I rate this book 2 out of 4 stars. I doubt that readers will find a great deal of joy in reading this book. I also do not see what they can generally learn from it. However, I recommend this book to an audience enthused with a message of self-determination and autonomy.
