I love historical fiction as it gives me a great view into the past. Your review made me want to read the book even further to find out more about this story. I agree with you that the story starts slow, but now I know to keep reading past the beginning to see the true story. Thank you for such a great informative review.

A book that focuses on the construction of a house of an old woman. I might have to skip this book as I'm not a fan of historical fiction and the plotline wasn't that engaging for me. Anyway, thanks for the review. Congrats on the BOTD!

From a sampling, this seems like an interesting historical fiction following a young African American woman who attempts to hide her heritage from her racist husband and to avoid her past while an older woman who just moved to the town of Acadi becomes intertwined her life. Supposedly, the background of the story is based on a the true events surrounding a duel of which the main character is the "descendant" of one of the combatants. It might be worth a second look. Well done.

I love historical fiction novels, but rarely do you see an elderly character such as Margaret; I agree with the reviewer. I'm curious how Elizabeth and Margaret's lives intertwine and if Elizabeth gains wisdom from the elderly lady. The author's detail in incorporating the events in the 1800s into the plot is fascinating. The story also drew me into why Elizabeth hid her truth and engaged a racist man. Thank you for such a fantastic review!

Seeing that this novel is a historical fiction one, I am intrigued by this "duel" that happened between the protagonist's antecedent and his opponent. I'm also intrigued by how realistic this is or at least, the historical context where the duel happened. Congratulations to the author for BOTD!

I was puzzled at how a bi-racial woman would be willing to marry a prejudiced man. Then I realized that you didn't call him her husband, you said fiance. So now I'm wondering, did she realized he was racist before she accepted his proposal? Did they end up getting married? Does Elizabeth's heritage come to light at some point? Please don't tell me. I'm looking forward to finding out for myself. :techie-studyingbrown:

In addition to finding the answers to those questions, I find myself intrigued by the masterful character building you mentioned in your well-written review. I love when an author can make multiple characters come to life. Margaret sounds like someone I would like to know better in real life. I'm looking forward to what I believe will be an engaging read. Thank you for your informative and thorough recommendation.

This seems to be a gripping read with two women' s lives intertwined in Acadi. I love it when the review says that the character of Margaret is not only portrayed as an elderly woman, rather she is an important character in the story. I like it when older characters still has vital role in a story because it inspires senior citizen to to still embrace life even in their old stage.Congrats BOTD?

Incredible! I find racism a very sensitive topic and I would love to read how it played out in book; Rebirth in Acadi. I really admire strong female characters because they depict how women should raise their heads upright in our society. Thank you for this review.

Thanks for your review. It's good to see that despite her age, even an elder like Margaret would be able to greatly affect the plot.
