People conceal their identity for various reasons, key among them to hide their heritage. I wonder how Elizabeth reacted when her roots threatened to sprout. Thanks for the review.

The review provides a good glimpse into the book, making me curious enough to read it. It is true that an aging woman character as a main part of a story is rare to see, and in this respect the author has done justice to Margaret's character. Thanks for the review!

I like old tales that have been narrated again with a fresh twist. I look forward to reading about Elizabeth and if she manages to pull through with her comeback in a new town. Great review.

I honestly think that events during the Civil War are gripping stories. I think they're very compelling stories. It's also raising awareness on what had happened before was not good for everyone. Thanks for sharing this book. So glad it's free today. I can read a good book this weekend

A story about Elizabeth Bancroft, a light-skinned African American. She decides to start a new life by relocating to the river town of Acadi, a town where one of her ancestors was involved in a duel during the Civil War. Elizabeth wants to keep the duel a secret from her racist fiance but this is based on a true story and the basis was published in the newspaper describing the last duels of the 1800s. The reasons for the duel were not published so this could muddy the waters even more. Does Elizabeth tell her fiance the truth with te potential consequences? The official review is well written and should motivate most readers to read the entire book. I am planning to do so and I will add it to my to-read list.

This book seem okay. Id like to read more about Elizabeth and Margaret. And also see how racism is portrayed in the book. But I feel the book isn't heavy on bigotry. Nice review

It sounds like a good historical fiction. One which can weave the fact and fiction nicely. I found the review well done.

I am becoming a fan of historical fiction novels that can intertwine past events and a separate storyline that brings in the characters of the story. This review painted a wonderful picture of what this book is about and I'm loving it already.

Thank you for the great review. This sounds like a perfect book for me. It has all the ingrediens I like - historical fiction, literary depiction of everyday life, well-rounded female characters. Right up my alley!

What makes this book interesting is the fact that it features a character whose old age is not her defining characteristic. The story is based on the historical event in the 1800s. Congrats on botd!
