Review of and then there were five little chickens
AND THERE WERE FIVE LITTLE CHICKENS SITTING ON THE COOP by Edward J. Aragon is a children's book about five little chickens sitting on a coop. Each of them left the coop for a different reason. Why were they leaving the coop in the first place? I want kids to discover that.
This is not just a story about five chickens. It's an illustrative book that teaches children about developing their reading skills through rhythms and other impressive means. With an illustration of the story of five chickens named Paula, Maria, Yolanda, Rosie, and Lorie, the author used the technique of repetition, vocabulary, and rhythm to teach kids to read smoothly and quickly.
What pleased me most about this book was the author's understanding of how kids learn. Kids learn faster with pictures and stories. Also, the author ensured that the book's preface laid a foundation for a proper understanding of the book. The sequence of the story would capture the attention of children, as they would inquisitively like to know what happened to the last chicken sitting on the coop.
It's an academic book in its context, and parents whose children are having hard times developing the skills needed for comprehensive reading might as well go for this book. I would recommend you follow Edward's style of teaching them. I really enjoyed the rhythm and the fact that the story wasn't elongated.
I have no negative issues with this book. I just stumbled upon a punctuation error. That would not be an issue for any potential reader. But it was still professionally edited. Overall, I believe this book deserves to be awarded a 4 out of 4 stars rating. I would officially recommend this book to children between the ages of 5 to 8. I have already given a secondary recommendation.
