Animal Village, written and illustrated by Nelda LaTeef, is a culture-rich story from the depths of West Africa, where only animals live. The chief is a lion named Zamboha, and he is at a loss when a drought begins ravishing his lands. In desperation, Zamboha calls a meeting of all the animals and asks if any have a solution to their problems. The only one to step forward is a tortoise named of Timba. Timba recounts a previous incident from the old stories passed down by the elders and how that situation was overcome. Will the other animals go along with Timba’s solution? Will the wisdom from the elders work?

I really enjoyed this book. The story was enriching, and the artwork was absolutely stunning. It was so beautiful that I had to go back to the beginning to admire it all over again. I also liked the information that was presented at the front of this book describing a little bit of history about Africa. It made this story all the more fulfilling overall. The message laid out in this book is quite wholesome and one that everyone should take note of. I also found no errors in this book and believe it to be exceptionally well-edited.

I honestly found nothing to dislike about this book. It was completely captivating, and a book that I believe I could enjoy numerous times. I’m not of the age that this book is geared for, but it still left a lasting impression on me. The artwork is also some of the best I have ever seen in book form.

As a result, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It is an extremely heartwarming book that will stay with me for a long time to come. It deserves the top marks I have given it, and I hope many other readers find joy in this book as I did.

This book is listed as suitable for a younger audience of readers, between the ages of four to eight, but I would honestly recommend it for teenagers and adults as well. I believe readers of all ages would benefit from this book. I also believe that the younger readers of this book should have an adult figure to help them fully understand the message that this story presents. With it being a children’s book, there is no questionable content to be found. It is a good, clean book meant for all ages.
